Benedict Cumberbatch and Judi Dench in Richard III

Great News!

I just read that Judi Dench will join Benedict Cumberbatch in the new Hollow Crown series film version of Richard III.

It seems that they were performing together at the Hay Festival and he surprised her by asking her to be in the film -- and she said yes! Hilarious!

At the Hay Festival

Good for her!

And great for him, since she is one of the greatest Shakespearean actors working today, and I'm sure he will learn so much from her.

It looks like she will play Queen Margaret, which is a great role, and surprisingly one that she has never played before.

The productions I have seen of Richard III either eliminate the Queen Margaret part or make her so melodramatic that it ruins the moments between her and Richard.

Those moments between Richard III and Margaret can be very very funny, and have some of the funniest lines.

I really hope that these two brilliant actors find this comedy. Judi Dench has a priceless sense of humor, and it would be a shame to waste the opportunity if she plays the role straight and melodramatic.

I have already written about him as Richard III and this only increases my excitement for this Hollow Crown film.

The film should start production by the end of the year.
